- the governmental administrative authority competent for GMOs

 

In accordance with the article 9 of the act on 22 June 2001 on genetically modified organisms the minister competent for the environment shall be the governmental administrative authority competent for GMOs. The operating scope of the Minister regarding GMOs shall include in particular:

  1. grant of consents to:

    1. deliberate release of GMOs into the environment,

    2. contained use of GMOs,

  2. grant of permits to:

    1. place GMO products on the market,

    2. export or transit GMO products,

  3. coordination of control and monitoring of the activities regulated by the Act,

  4. coordination of collection and exchange of information on security of human beings and the environment with regard to GMOs.

To take measures defined in the GMO act Minister designate GMO Department in the Ministry of the Environment. A GMO Commission shall be established as the opinion making and advisory body to the minister competent for GMOs.

The Minister shall draw up the draft of the National Strategy of Biological Safety and actions under this strategy. The National Strategy of Biological Safety and the action plan shall be approved by the Council of Ministers, by means of an ordinance. Competent ministers in the scope defined by the Strategy referred to shall apply rules of biological safety and the action plan to branches of economy which the ministers are competent for.
